The' report stated that the stop-bank on the western side of-'tho river had been cleared of gorse, etc., and various repairs to protective works had been completed. A length of willow and cable work had been constructed at Sullivan's crossing, and at the ■ top of Gear Island, a chain in length haa been refitted with willow bundles: To prevent "southerlies" from scouring,' two chains of willow work had been put in at the back of Jameses shop.' For the purpose of erecting a loading place for Mr. King 13 iron rails had been driven in by the board's staff.' The report recommended that t steps' be taken to prevent trespassing and removing shingle-from the beaches. The Railway Department had not yet removed certain old piles from the river as requested. Owing to some person removing the ropes from the board's punt at the Pipe Bridge, the craft drifted foul of a pile arid got damaged. It was resolved to write again to the Railway Department in Tespect to the removal of the piles.
