'At a mooting of tho Dunedln Chamber of Commorco this afternoon it was decided to send the following telegram to tho Prime Minister: : : "Referring to the; congestion of chaff and other: produce at southern ports, tho position at Dunedin. is quite -. as nouto'as at tho Bluff, so far as blocking -is . concomed, and 'a. deadlock threatens to result, as tho, shipping companies aro apparently unable to find it-earners, and the Chamber therefore strongly urges the Government to communicate" with the Federal Government with' a ..view' to 'arranging for the use of enemy vessels interned there,- for tho •purpose of 'making-.two. or three trips, to relieve/the congestion. The . "Whatigape, which is loading here this week, will', only tako Federal Defence orders. Ifj the: position is not Telieyed in July, serioiis loss will accrue both to farmers and merchants, .as- straw chaff is not wanted locally or in Australia, after August;". In the.event- of steamers being obtainable it is suggested that the "Union Compfny should act as agents. In.the opinion of one well-known: local merchant, 1 there are at least 50,000 tons of produce l and other lines such as straw .chaff; baled' straw,, potatoes,, etc-', awaiting shipment at Dunedin, and these cannot be got away at present, owingito.the lack df.Shippmg. . :
