To own ,a private banking acoount at Lloyds savours of substance; and hitherto the working man who has saved! only a few killings out of his weekly, wage has not been, invited to deposit them in this or any of the v other great banks. Lloyds 'have now decided to place the services of their bank at the disposal of these small depositors,, and are prepared to itako oven tho most insignificant sumi>. Lloyds are giving terms which in regard to interest paid and conditions of withdrawal are practically the same as those given by the Post Office Savings Bank. Already Lloyds Bank has a large savings bank department in the SouthWest of England, and henceforward the same facilities will.be extended throughout the 880 odd offices which comprise' their system throughout England and Wales. Thero is no desire or intention on the part of the bank management to enter into a competition, of terms with the Government .Savings Bank or 1 any other similar institution; -the sole intention, it is said, is to extend throughout the country a system which has proved useful and profitable in the SouthWest at a .time when thero is every nted to. oncourago thrift among all classos of the community •
