RISE IN BUTTER
NOW Is. Bd. PER POUNDS 'As from'yesterday the wtole'sale'price of butter was raised from Is. to Is. 6|d. per lb., to retailers; less the usual id. per lb. rebate for prompt payment. Automatically the retailers raised the price from Is. 7d. to'ls. Bd. .j>er lb., to the public. In raising tlie'price of butter all tile local firms with preponderating interests in the trade issue similar memorandums to the "letailers by 'the same, mail, in. order that the rise may be made simultaneously _ and without warning. Butter is now 'higher jn price than it has been for years without any obvious reason', and the Government has stepped in and prevented its export to prevent the public of New Zealand from being exploited at a time when such exploitation is legist' to bo desired and is likely to be most resented. . ■
