Makgill, • who „was given leave of absence from the position of District IJealth Officer at Auckland, has arrived in London. - Dr. Makgill has been detailed for special work m the Chemistry Department of the Wait Office with his uncle, Dr. J. S. Haldane, F.R.S. Sir Henniker Heaton a son of thei late Sir John Henniker Heaton (tho apostle of penny postage) has been appointed second: lieutenant in the Welsh' Horse. Mr.'C. P. Skerrett, K. 0., has been elected a vice-president of the Wellington Racing Club, vice Mr. J. H. B. Coates,' resigned. ~ Dr. Appleyard, formerly medical officer of the Easteftr Extension Company's cable steamer .Patrol, arrived, from Sydney by the Manuki last evening. Dr. and Mrs. Simmers were alsd passengers by tho sam& steamer. .The funeral of the late Private Archi- - bald Lionel Smith Badger,, of Christchurch, took place at Karori Cemeteryj yesterday morning, Chaplain-Captain .Walker officiating. Deceased, was 22 ■, years of age. His mother and six brothers were present at the graveside.
