Tho Sydney Chamber of Commerce has advised the 'Wellington Chamber of Commerce that the position of-ships at Java is: "After authorising Mr. Allen (who represents the Australasian consignees in Java) to pay tho. four por cent, demandedj the committee ondcavoured to overcome tho demand mndo by the companies for tho supply of bank guarantees against missing bills of lading. In this the comraitteo was not successful, and is now negotiating with the Bank of New South Wales oil a basis of a guarantco to local agents of tho Gorman-Australian Company, and a guarantee to a neutral bank in Java for tho N.D.L. and Hungarian Levant Companies. Directly this is arranged you will be advised, and necessary arrangements made for an indemnity to bo signed by all consignees to tho committee. Our last cable message from Mr. Allen was to tho cffcct that tho Jjiibcck cargo would in all probability be delivered undor the same conditions as that of the Stolberg. This has boon borne out by tho local agents of the Gorman-Australian S.S. Company.
