Hodges, N.Z. Engineers (London)— Distinguished Conduct Medal. Mr. F. J. W. Fear, of Wellington, has been advised by the Minister of Defence' that his eldest son (Lce.-Corpl. Francis' J. H. Fear) has been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Lce.-Corpl. Fear was born in Wellington, twentyseven years ago, and was educated at the Kilbirnie School and Wellington College. _ He learned the engineering business in his father's establishment, and afterwards became-manager of several cheese factories in tho North Island. Last year he went to Canada, and while passing through San Francisco was privileged to niake.a flight in an aeroplane. After being in Canada a short time ho communicated with the New Zealand High Commissioner, expressing a desire to fight for his country, and was instructed to report himself to the army authorities in London. He joined the New Zealand. contingent formed at Home, and is now with the forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula. His younger brother (Sergt. Reginald G. V. Fear) went away from Wellington with one of the Now -Zealand contingents.
