EFFECT IN THE UNITED STATES By Telegraph—PTess Association—Copyright (Rec. July 3, 6.55 p.m.) London, July 3. "The Times" correspondent at 'Washington says the sinking of the Armenian and tho loss of the American citizens, mostly coloured, is a sad blow to Washington. It is possible that it indicates Germany's real answer to President Wilson's protest rather than the reassuring platitudes emanating from Berliu. • • That the Government is seriously concerned is shown by its solicitudo in collecting comprehensive details. It must be remembered that the Armenian was carrying only contraband. It is certain Germany will adhere to the claim to bo allowed to continuo to attack such Germany must remember that despite pacificism American patience isn't inexhaustible. TENSION DIMINISHED. Washington July 2. Tli'o British Admiralty's statement that tho Armenian was-engaged on Admiralty business lias diminished the tension in official circles.
