"Our poor boys, particularly of Auckland and Wellington, have lost quite a large number of officers and men," he wrote. "Father Finu, of the Dublin Fusiliers, was liit four times in the chest wliilo on the boat going from the ship to the beach. As he was taken from the boat, although in great agony, he attempted to admin-' ister the last rites to somo who were around liim. An honi after arriving on land he was struck by another bullet in the head. Ho died within :an hour. The Dublius, a battalion strong, landed under a constant fusillade or rille. and machine-gun lire within a range of 30yds. They were practically annihilated. I hope you will send ns more priests, for, even occlusive of casualties among us, the work of attending to tho wounded is growing exceeding heavy. Our wounded in Cairo are scattered, over live hospitals, fresh cases como in every day, and moro hospitals are being opened, which makes a lot of work for ono priest;' l ,
