Young, Mrs. It. Pearson, and Mrs. Chatfield. Mrs. Coleridge that she had invited a few ladies to attend a preliminary meeting, and to get an, opinion as to tho prospects and advisability of establishing a room in town, noar- the railway station, where our soldiers could pleasantly pass the'time while waiting for tho "train. The general opinion of those present was that it has been a reproach to Wellington that it is the only town in the British Empire with troops encamped in tho environs, which has not made some provision for tho men in tho way of hospitality ill tho town. Those pre-, sent formed themselves into a committee, with power to add to their number, and it was • resolved to call a public meotiiig and invite, assistance from-all interested in the matter. The officers appointed wero Mrs. Massey, president: Mrs. Salmond (hon.' secretary), and Mrs. Henry Hall (lion, treasurer), vice-presidents, and other members of committee were suggested and appointed, subject to their approval. A subcommittee of "ways and moans" was also appointed, who will mako a report at tho next meeting.
