England..aiscount rate was on January. 2. 1914, reduced from 5, to 41 per cent., on January:22 it was reduced to' 4 per cent., and; oil January 28 3 per -cent. On Jialy 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent', and.on January.23 3. per cent., -and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 tho rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was furtier reduced to .5 per cent., at which rate it now stands. Tho Bank of Franpe rate is; 5 per, cent., as against 4 per cent, last year. OPEN MARKET BATES The open market discount rate for three months' bills'is 4i- -per cent., !as compared with 4J per ccnt. last week, and 2 per cent, last year; Short loans are quoted at. 1! per cent, aa against 13 pel- ccnti last week—and li per cent, last year., COLONIAL AND OTHER' PRODUCE. Flour is steady '.with .better .business doins. Oats are dull. New Zealand; 375.; BaMii .Blanc-a, 255. 3d.. Peas and beans are firm, and unchanged. There are few sellers. 'Butter.—The market is steady and quiet. Prices for Australian unchanged. Some New Zealand was sold—Salted, 1465.; unsalted, 148s. ■ Cheese—Market easier.. New Zealand realised 925. and 945. Bradford Tops.—The market is exceedingly firm and tendency to harden. Business in futures is slightly quieter, but thero is a keen demand for the few lots available for immediate delivery. The quotations arc:—Sixty-fours, 45d.; super sixties, 44} d.; common sixties. 43d.; fifty-sixes, 36rid.; fitUes, 33Jd.; forty-sixes, 28d.; forties, 26d. THE METAL . MARKETS. .
