INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS
COUNCIL MEETING. The Council of the Institute of Surveyors met yesterday afternoon, Mr. T. Humphries presiding, j ■ There were also presont: Messrs. James M'Kerrow, J. E. Fulton, H. Sladden, F. I. Ledger (Nelson), and C. D. Morpeth. Mr. J. M'Kenzie, 1.5.0., wrote, thanking the council for congratulations extended .to him in connection with the honour he had recently received from His Majesty the King. A complaint was received from Mr. Hardio (Te Kuiti) in respect of a certain survey carried out in his district. It was decided that the matter was not within the jurisdiction of tho council. Advice • from tho Under-Secretary for Lands stated that tho revised by-laws and rules had been approved 1 by the Minister, that those requiring gubernatorial approval had been sent on, and would be gazetted when approved. Archdeacon Willis, of Cambridge, wrote, acknowledging tho council's condolences on the death of his son, who was a member of tho institute, and who was killed in action at tho Dardanelles. Numbers of letters were received from local committees throughout .Now Zealand, dealing with the question of contract surveys for the Public Works Department. .It was resolved that a deputation, consisting of tho chairman, and Messrs. Sladden and Fulton, waitupon the Under-Secretary _ of Public Works and represent to him that tho views expressed from all over Now Zealand are against the system of contract surveys as at present conducted by bis Department. ■ Messrs. H. P. Spencer and J. A, Parry woro elected mombors of the institute..
