ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FATAL FALL FROM A DRAY. An inquest was held at the Wellington Hospital by Mr. D. 6. A. Cooper, S.M., late yesterday afternoon into the circumstances concerning the death of a boy of nine and a half years named •William'Reid, who.died at-the Hospital early on Wednesday morning as the result of injuries received through falling off a dray 'at- Kaiwarra on Tuesday. The evideiice of the driver of the dray on which deceased was'riding prior to. the accident showed that the driver (Harry Parker) was walking alongside the dray while Reid was sitting : on the ■driver's seat. Just after passing the drinking trough at Kaiwarra the driver looked back and saw the boy lying on the road at the rear of the -dray. The diiver was of opinion that deceased fell off the vehicle while attempting to turn round. and look back down the road. ' Dr:_ Marshall, house surgeon at the Hospital/ gave evidence that the boy's dcivth was due to shock resulting from the injuries received. The Coroner returned a verdict according to the medical testimony, and added that no blame was attachable to anyone. FATAL QUARRY ACCIDENT. By Telejraph.—Press Association. Groymouth, July 1. A fatal accident occurred at the Cobden Quarry at 4.45 o'clock this afternoon, when a married man named John M'Kyle,'aged 50 ; residing at Ruuanga, lost his life. The deceased was shovelling at the foot of a face at the quarry when a large rock fell, striking him on the head and killing him instantly. STJIGIDE OF A BRICKLAYER. Woodvllle, July 1. A bricklayer named George Perfect, a very old resident, committed suicido last night by poisoning. He had been drinking.' Ho leaves a widow and two daughters.
