POULTRY SHOW
OPENED BY THE COUNTESS OF LIVERPOOL ' LARGE ENTRIES There are between seven and eight hun-, dred entries for the thirty-third annual exhibition of the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Society, which was opened in the Harbour Board's "U" Shed yesterday afternoon. The whole of tiio pioeeeds from the exhibition and- from the art union promoted by the society are to be devoted to the Wounded Sailors' and Soldiers' Fund, and it is anticipated that with the assistance of kindred societ'Cs a sum of oGiOOO' will bo raised. Among those present at the opening ceremony yesterday' afternoon wore Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, and the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Lute). In a brief speech a,t the opening, Her Excellency said: "I need not say what pleasure it gives me to once .luoro attend the Wellington Poultry Show. I should like to congratulate the society on its decision to give all net profits to the Patriotic Fund. Some, of you may, perhaps, have read about the shipment of eggs, which arrived Homo in spfendid condition, and which was so highly spoken of by the Grocers' Association in London. I was especially interested, as the eggs were forwarded to me in the first placo by the Mayoress of Mo.tueka, and I was instrumental in getting them sent Home. Through some mistake, the authorities at Home sold' the eggs for the benefit of New Zealauders, instead of sending them to the hospitals, as was intended. Howr ever, the sale of these eggs has giveii them publicity, and it appears ito me that those interested in the export of eggs might find it worth while to find out how these eggs were' prepared and packed." Her Excellency, then declared the eihibition open. At the call of the Mayor, three cheers were given for Her Excellency, who afterwards spent some time in viewing the various exhibits. PRIZE LIST.
