POLICE CASES

Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate s Court yesterday. Walter Cole was fined £5, with costs 75., in default one month's gaol, on a charge of assisting Mary Irene Williams, a prohibited person, to commit a breach of her prohibition order. On another similar charge he was convicted and discharged. , Kathleen Gerity was fined 10a., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness, and sent to gaol for three months on a further charge of being idle and disorderly in that she had insufficient means of support. Henry Francis M'llroy -was fined 10s., with costs 75., on each of two charges of committing breaches of his prohibition order. George Miller appeared on remand, charged with drunkenness. He was ordered to pay 225. 6d., medical expenses, and fined 405., default being fixed at seven days' imprisonment. Charles Williams was convicted and ordered to be handed over to the military authorities on a charge of drunkenness. Edward Myers was charged with stealing 9s. 7d. in money and about £5 worth of ladies' jewellery. Accused was remanded to to-day, bail boing allowed in £25. Edith Conroy appeared on remand, charged with escaping from the Salvation Army Home, and was ordered to be sent back to that institution. Grace Manson was remanded until today on a charge of using obscene language. Bail was allowed in £10. For drunkenness, John M'Kinnon was fined £2, in default seven days' gaol; Charles M'Carthy fined £1, in default three days; and James Henry Murray and Thomas Christiansen each fined 10s., in default 43 hours' imprisonment. 6everal_ first-offending inebriates were dealt with.

MAINTENANCE CASES. For disobeying a maintenance order, Thomas_ Hodges was sentenced to five weeks' imprisonment, the warrant to bo suspended on the payment of 20s. a week . Thomas Williams was ordered to pay 10s. a week towards the maintenance of his child. Alfred Gregory was ordered to pay 2s. 6d. a week towards the maintenance of his father.
