BOILERMAKERS GATHERING

The Wellington Boilermakers' Union held a. verv successful smoke concert at Hall's Rooms, Ouba Street, on Ftiday night last, when the opportunity was token to farewell some of their number who ha-vo joined tho colours. _ 3fr. J. Dowson (president of tlie cllington union) presided over an attendanco of about 80, including representatives of ■several other unions. The usual toasts were gone through, the toast of the soldier guests being proposed by Mr. J. E. Jenkinson, who wished the departing members the best of luck. Mr. Jenkinson hoped also that members of the Boilermakers' and allied unions who were unable to serve their country in the trenches would be given an opportunity to assist in maintaining the supply of munitions. He thought, perhaps, that the Government might send somo capable men to the Old Country to see if the necessary machinery and material could be secured, or in what manner New Zealand could be of assistance. In responding to the toast, Messrs. Wilson and Byrne spiritedly appealed to their fellows to enlist, and spoke enthusiastically of the life at 'Irentham. Musical items wero rendered by .Messrs. O'Oonncll, Jennings, Thompson, Foley, Findlavson, Jeffreys, M'Ginitv, Buchanan, aiid Byrne. Mr. L. Robinson was accompanist.
