J. H. W. Sheppard. Respecting the additional 1000 mounted men who are to be sent from j\ew Zealand, it is understood that the increased force will be mad© up by merging tlio 7th Mounteds, who are aiready m camp, with the 6tlis, and calling up an additional 200 men, who will accompany the 6tli Reinforcements. A fresh 7th Reinforcement draft for the Mounted Rifles will be cailed up in August, and also tho balance required to make up the new 1000. Although at first sieht this would appear to involve sending insufficiently-trained men to the result. It will be remembered hat the horses of the Mounted Rifles now in Egypt aro being cared for by men who are quite efficient to take their place in the firing line. The insufficiently-trained men to be sent from New Zealand will be able to take charge_ of the horses, thus releasing the trained men for the front, and will go on completing their training. The Defence Department announces that the 200 men now being recruited will only be taken into camp on the ditinct understanding that they -will get 110 leave. It is hoped that the men concerned will accept this opportunity of being able to get away from New Zealand after a short period of training in the spirit which it is offered, and during the time they are in camp will strive to attain as high a standard of officiency as possible. If they desire to see.,their, frieoids. they are urged to get'them to go out to Trentham, and not waste valuable time in goinc elsewhere. YESTERDAY'S RECRUITS. - The following enlisted in Wellington yesterday:— Robert Priest, labourer, City. Henry Gordon Bland, ironmonger, Melrose. Albert Edward Hunt, warehouseman, City.
