AN UNFORTUNATE ERROR

Patterson, of the Canterbury Battalion, disclosed an unsatisfactory condition of affairs in regard to the notifies-' tion of casualties. On Jumo 11 his father, a solicitor in .Dannevirke, received a telegram from the Minurter of Defence stating that Private Patterson was wounded. Mr. Patterson then cabled for information as to the whereabouts of his son and the nature of his injuries. On Juno 20 ho received a telegram signed by Uk. Secretary of the G.P.0., Wellington, that Private Patterson wa6 progressing favourably. This morning he received another telegram advising him of tho dc.iih of Private Patterson on May 30 of wound.-! received, in action.
