ARBITRATION COURT

COMPENSATION CASE. A brief sitting of the Court of Arbitration was held vesterd.l/, His Honour Mr. Justice Stringer presiding. T'lio first business was the measure of compensation to be awarded the plaintiff in the case of Alfred .lnusru v. tho Huddart, Parker Co., Ltd. Mr. P. J. O'Regan apeared for Jansen, while Mr. T. Neave appeared for tlio defendant company. Jansen had been struck b;r a sling of cargo while working alongside the ,Ulimaroa on April 29, 19i4 His injuries were serious, and the defendant company (owners of the Ulimajoa) had admitted liability and had been paying tlio plaintiff (Jansen) half wages. The questions in dispute were the extent of the injuries and the amount of compensation to be paid in full settlement. The Court awarded Jansen £150 in full settlement, together with ten guineas costs, and witnesses' expenses. PLUMBERS' AWARD. An application to amend the Dominion Plumbers' Award was to have been heard by the Court, but the matter was adjourned sine die. The application was by the unions, whose members seek to be paid for travelling time in connection with suburban work If the' parties tail to come to an arrangement, they are to notify the Clerk of Awards, and the Court, on receiving advice, will make a fixture.
