A TIMBER RESERVE
THE DECENT CONTROVERSY. Some protest has been raised about the action of the Government in giving the milling rights over a railway timber reserve adja.cent to the Main-Trunk line in the King Country, and fhe Minister of Railways has made his defence of Ins action. The following resolution endorsing the Ministor's action lias bean passed by the Rangatsua Town Board: — "That this meeting of the Ranpatavui Town Board condemns the action of the Ohakune Borough Council in protesting against the transference of the milling rights of Sections 1 and 2, Block V, and part of Sections 3, 1, 5, and 6, Block I, Karioi Survey District, from the Now Zealand Railways to a firm of Rangnta'ia eawmillers. The sections in question are nearer to Raugataua Post Office than to Ohakune Post Office, and naturally lie in the. area pertaining to Rangataua. Further, instead of hindering settlement as stated by the Ohakune Borough Council, wo maintain that the procedure would further settlement in this locality."
