AN APPEAL PROM SAMOA
PRAYER-BOOKS AND HYMNALS WANTED. Chaplain-Captain Wells-Smailes writes as follows from Samoa, under dato of June 10: —"May 1 through your paper appeal to the Christian community of Wellington and district for the gift of prayer-books and hymnals? By some mistake the former force took with them the service books used by the troops at Divine servico. The present force is without any, and as a conseqtienco our religious exercises are robbed of much of t'heir interest. The men aro continually asking me if I can provido them with prayer-books and hymnals. They want them, and would be glad to have them. I have felt that tho religious community only needed to ho informed of the existence of such a need to have it supplied. Would kind friends therefore respond to this appeal? As the chaplain of the forces at Samoa I shall be glad to receive such gifts; will see they are faithfully distributed among the men and acknowledge to the donor the gift received."
