CRATEFUL BACK-BLOCKS SETTLERS.
•Sir,—On behalf of the members of the Monavalo Settlement Association, would you allow mo through the medium of. your paper to publicly tliank Dr. Fitchetfc and Mr. Jl'Goivaii for the very kind reception they gave to Mcsbts. Thomason and Howson when in Wellington last week ? Back-blocks settlers usually expect to conio across any amount of "broad tape" stained "bloodred" when in the offices of the powers that be. Instead of blood-red the tape
was whits right through, and we now look upon the heads of the Publio Trust Department as friends and gentlemen. The manly ring of the wholo interview was quite refreshing. We wish also to thank Mr. Massey for his kind replies to our letters. It's real good t-o have to do with men who know how to combine justice with kindly sympathy and firmness with fairness. May their kind increase in all Departments. On behalf of the association. —1 am, etc., NICHOLAS HOPWOOB. Rotorangi, June 15, 1915.
