COMFORTS FOR THE WOUNDED
By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Dunedln, June 21. Th© question of comforts for disabled soldiers in Egypt and the hospitals in England was mentioned by a reporter to the Hon. James Allen (Minister of Defence). He said he desired to draw a clear distinction between ordinary hospital necessities and the conveniences, and provisions for the sick and wounded. and what he would call special comforts —writing paper, shaving material, books, eto. He thought such comforts must be the sort of requirements to be supplied by th© generous public of New Zealand. Money has been donated by the public to tho Empire Defence Fund for the purpose of providing comforts for the sick, wounded, and convalescent soldiers. "I have," he added, "already forwarded these sums, and more. When a telegram reached me asking for more, I immediately sent £1000. I have public money in hand now for the purpose of providing comforts for the sick and wounded, and I think it would be wise if the Minister of Defence were kept supplied with a certain amount for this special purpose."
