MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
The Patriotic Society's auction mart in Willis Street is being kept open daily, and sales are hning held every afternoon, where anything from a piano to a climbing monkey may be purchased at gift prices. Anyone having anything to sell in airl of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund is asked to send the goods in at once, as the time for sales is limited to the present week. Country officers of the Public Service are continuing to contribute their quota towards the Public Service Queen campaign. Among the donations just to hand is a sum of £7 Bs. from the Moumahaki Experiment Farm, being tho net proceeds of a. dance held there in support of the Public Service candidate. The Public Service Committee desires to acknowledge the receipt of a cheque for £10 10s. from the Hon. W. H. Herries in support of : their candidate. certo." A number of other well-known artists are assisting. The solid oak bedroom suite of four pieces, which is to. be the third prize in the Commercial Travellers' Monster Art Union, is now being shown in tho window of Messrs. Browne and Yeats, and is attracting considerable interest. Tickets for the art union, in which there are a hundred prizes, may be obtained from Messrs. Browno alii Yeats, or from the secretary of the Commercial Travellers' Club, Victoria Street. The Empire Theatre at Petono was packed to the doors last evening, when the Coronation of Miss Senior as "Queen of the Valley" took place. Subsequently a "Coronation" ball was held, and was well attended. A committee, of which Messrs. Robertson and Ramsden were joint secretaries, was responsible for the success of the latter funotion. The Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Carnival Committee announce the following as results of raffles drawn:—For Venetian tea-set, winning number, 316, Mr. C. Smith, Cuba Street; for pearl necklace, winning number, 775, Mr. 11. May, care Messrs. John Chambers, Ltd. A procession, composed of the Hutt Valley supporters of Miss Senior, for the Queen of the Carnival contest, paraded from Petone to Lower Hutt on Saturday, with scores of collecting clowns, etc., attending. In spite of tho bad weather, the parade was successful. Some of the features of the display were three ammunition wagons, and a "Long Tom" (33ft. long) constructed by the employees of the Government Workshops, and a Dreadnought that kept continually tiring, maimed by the Gear Company employees, which created much interest. Two "kazoo" bauds and a Darktown Firo Brigade supplied tho humorous element of the show. A sports gymkhana will bo given in the Harbour Board's "U" shed at 8 o'clock this evening. The programme will include Pierrot and variety entertainment, and side-showß. The second concert by the Wellington Amateur Choral Club will be given iu t'ho Concert Chamber this evening, ill aid of the -Wounded Soldiers' Fund. In addition to several very lino choral items by the 'lub, items will be given by several Of our leading vocalists and Miss Beere's clever little pupils. Box plan for this concert is now open at the Bristol l'iano Co. On Wednesday evening, the members of the Charley's Aunt Club, assisted by Miss Saunders's dance pupils, are giving a concert in tho Concert Chamber of the Town Hall in qid of the Carnival Fund. The club numbers amongst its members many of our leading amateur performers, and a really first-class programme has been drawn up. Box plau is at the Bristol Piano Co. 1 Two hundred and fifty school children, trained by the Misses Holm (2), are giving a grand patriotic entertainment m the large Town Hall on Thursday evening next, in aid of the .Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Many very fine tableaux have been arranged,' and also national dances and solos by Mr. C. Clarkson and Master Rodney l'aiikhurst. In addition, many of the prizewinners in the recent Queen Carnival musical and elocutionary competition will take part. The demand for tickets has been very great, and a most successful concert is anticipated. The Petone Ladies' Mock Court has boon the means of augmenting tho Hutt Valley candidate's funds to the extent of £120. It is stated that a sitting mil be held at Lower Hutt during tho week. A grand Caledonian concert will bo given in the Grand Opera House this evening in support of the candidature of the Highland Society's nominee, Mrs. A. M'Vicar, for Queen 'honours. The programme, which is advertised, is an excellent one and includes songs, Highland dances, recitations, and a clarinet solo by Mr. C. D. Mackintosh. Tlio Highland Pipe Band will be in attendance, and will open the concert with a selection.
