The guns of the Galician battle are now audible in Lembcrg, and ono message (not official) states that passes have been issued to 10,000 Russians to leave tho city. The Austrians claim to have seized tho Russians' main positions on the Lemberg road. The wet weather which prevails ha s swollen tho rivers and flooded tho marshes, creating a situation favourable to tho Russians. There is no lack of news from tho Western front, where the Germans are being given more than enough to do to m aintain the ground they are holding. The French official communique carries tho reader from Arras, in 'the north, right down to Alsao e, in the south-east, and' is a series of successes from the one flank to the other. Tho Italians in their warfare against the Austrians are making continued progress, and from the various sections of their battle front there are stories of thrilling encounters. The Alpini and Bersaglieri Corps have covered themselves with glory in valorous attacks on difficult positions. There is no news from Gallipoli of fresh developments in the campaign. A Turkish report aserts that a. British battleship lies half-submerged in Turkish waters.
