LOCAL RECRUITINC. 150 MEN LAST WEEK. Three men enlisted in Wellington on Saturday, and the total for last week is 150. Saturday's three were:— Alfred Win. l'inckncy, upholsterer, OJty. Michael Patrick Naughton, clerk, Otaki. Percy Herbert Thompson, labourer, City. In future the Defence authorities propose handing out for publication only the names of men who liavo been medically examined. The chief cause of the alteration is that many men have merely registered their names and never gone any further with the- process of enlistment. Some of these men, it is reckoned, were merely taking advantage of the publicity they received, and in reality wero shirking their duty. Colfcrs in Khaki. Tlio members of the Johnsonvillo Golf Club met in tlio Club House on Saturday afternoon to say good-byo to some of their comrades who are about to leavo New Zealand to serve their country at the front. Miss M'lntosh is going to Jliiiglaud at her own expense in older to givo lier services to the Red Cross Society, and Messrs Sloan, C'artwright, Hall, W. A. ' Ivirker, and 1. Jones are leaving with future contingents. A telegram was received from Air. Jones regretting his inability to bo present. The table was tastefully decorated with the club's colours '(navy blue and rod), and blue hydrangeas. Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Wallis dispensed afternoon tea which was provided by the lady members. After tils toast of the King had been honoured, the health of the departing members was drunk on the motion or Mr. Wallis who made an appropriate speech. The toasts were responded to in suitable terms. The gathering also diank the health of Mesdames Morgan and Wallis in recognition of their kindness in dispensing tea every Saturday afternoon. The proceedings were characterised by mucli heartiness. The five gentlemen mentioned aro not the only members of the Johnsoimlle Club who have joined the Empire's fighting forces.
