UPROAR IN THE FEDERAL HOUSE REFERENDUM BILL INTRODUCED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Reo. Juno 18, 9.10 p.m.) Melbourne, June 18.. An uproar was created in the Federal House by the introduction of the first Referendum Bill. Mr, Joseph Cook (Leader of the Opposition), proposed to add by way of amendment, the words: "As Boon as provision is made, by the unity, of tlie Government and Parliament, for the successful prosecution of the war." Mr. Cook deprecated party strife during this crisis in the Empire's history. It was not fair, he said, to attempt to amend the Constitution when .sixty thousand of ther citizens were lighting, nnd unable to vote. The Premier, Mr. Fisher, announced that he accepted the amendment as a motion of want-of-confidence in the Government. Mr. Anstey, . Labour member for Bourko, has resigned, owing to friction with the Ministry. WHOLESALE FOOD PRICES FIXED. PROCLAMATION IN NEW SOUTH ■ WALES. (Reo, June 18, 11.5 p.m.) Sydney, June 18. A Proclamation which has been issued fixes wholesale prices as follow:—In 'Cumberland and Northumberland, bran, £8 10s.; pollard, £9'per ton; elsewhere, bran 605., and pollard 60s. above the local prices obtaining on September 10, 1914. Sydney, June 17. Grant Hervey has been retried on the charge of forging a telegram, and sentenced to two yearfr' imprisonment, to be cumulative on' his previous sentence. \ The. Judge, in sentencing Hervey, said: "You appear to be a pastmaster in scoundrelism, and a danger to -the community. You have shown great ability for crime." ( MURDER OF A WOMAN. . Sydney, June 18. ; George Casper Watson has been committed for trial for the alleged murder of Mrs. Pocockj whose body was found in Prince Alfred. Park on May 1 last, bearing signs of terrible ill-treatment, recalling the notorious Mount Rennie outrage. She was identified as the wife of a chimney sweep named Pocock, who states that his wife was in the habit of absenting herself for days together.

INQUIRY ON FROZEN MEAT EXPORT. Melbourne, June 18. The State Cabinet has appointed a Royal Committee to inquire into the export of frozen meat. (Rec. June 18, 11.5 p.m.) Adelaide, June 18. The Government is importing frozen meat and supplying it direct to consumers. The first shipment arrives next week.
