CARE OF THE WOUNDED

OFFER FROM BOYS' INSTITUTE. The Slayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) yesterday received the following letter from Mr. G. A. Troup, president of the Wellington Boys' Institute:— "On behalf of the Wellington Boys' Institute and the S. and A. Rhodes' Home for. Boys, and with the approval of the trustees of the late Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, i have much pleasure in offer-' iue to your council the use of the new institute building now ibeing erected in Tasman Street, and which will be ready in two months' time, for .the care and treatment of returned wounded soldiers. The committee feels justified in making this offer On account of the unprecedented circumstances and the fact that the institute building bas complete culinary and sanitary equipment, and would answer the purpose better and be more comfortable for the returned wounded men than a temporary building. The only part of the new building which the committee - proposes to retain is the swimming; bath. I shall be glad to have an early reply, as there may be somo alterations required to make the building more suitable for hospital purposes, and these could be more conveniently and economically carried out now than when the building is -complete; also it will be necessary for some arrangements to be made soon if tho work of the institute is to be continued in the present building." The Mayor, in referring to the letter, said that he very much appreciated the offer, and he was suro the council would agree with him.

Commissioner Hodder, of tlio Salvation Army, 1 will conduct tho meetings at Lower Hutt 011 Sunday morning, and at Petons in the evening. He leaves for Hastings 011 June 21. The chief secretary of the Salvation Army will conduct the meetings at South Wellington 011 Sunday.
