WOMEN AND CHILDREN KILLED To-day's communiques from the Eastern theatre indicate a heavy pressure by. the Germans, who are said to have been reinforced by new troops and heavy guns. As the result of a three days' desperato battle the Russians have fallen back, and they have also retired from Czemowtz across the the frontier. Elsewhere along the Eastern front the Russians have held the advantage. 'The enemy's communiques claim huge captures. In the West both tho British and Frenoh have scored successes on their respective fronts, the gains including an' important position in the Vosges. The Italians in their war with Austria have now. gained the advantage of position, and there does not appear to be anj hope now for the Austrians to de- ■ velop their original plan of attack. At the time of writing (a late message is still to arrive), there is no news from Galiipoli. Rumania is reported to be in treaty, with Russia with a view to settling vari- ■ ous points at issue between the two Governments, and a tentative agreement is said to have been signed
