Clark) 3, Pommern won in a canter. Tho race for the English. Derby (as usually run) is for entire colts (9st.) and fillies (Bst. 91b.), for a stake of ;C65()0, over a distance of one mile and a half. The New Derby was run at Newmarket (the Derby is usually run at Epsom. The English Jockey Club abandoned, at the request of tho Prciiiier, Mr. H. H. As-, quith, all racing fixtures except tho Newmarket Meeting. The race would no doubt be over the Derby distance, and while the victorious horse would not be regarded as the regular Derby winner, there would be keen rivalry to win what may be termed the special war Derby. BAD YEAR FOR A TURF CLUB. EESTJLT OF OVER-RACING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Co pyilcht Perth, Juno 16. Starting witt> a credit of 55, the West Australian Turf Club ended the year with a debit of .£3855, which is largely attributed to over-racing. Tho club voted iiOOO to the war funds. HASTINGS TRAINING NOTES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hasting, June 16. A sunny morning attracted a number of spectators to the tracks, but the work was of an uninteresting nature, tho majority of the horses being restricted to steady training. Many of the visitors hive arrived, including Soporific, tho Steeplechase candidate. _ Glenmora and Bonny are expected to-night. There was no jumping, most of the work being confined to the inside plough. , Irish Fusilier and Cousin Jack were allotted slow work. Multicipal did two circuits at threequarter pace. San Pan and Braeburn did a working gallop of twice round. Naupata and Scrutineer pleased by the war they negotiated a couple of circuits. Both looked well. Haiimakaka went once round at threequarter pace. Hurakia and Vi finished together at the end of a fast round, the former pleasing most./ ' ■ St. Elmn did a steady couple of circuits. The Birkenhead—Glissade filly galloped on the sand. Tatterley and Blackall did easy pacing. Bodenham and Heather Mixture galloped a circuit, moving well. Red Book, Clinker, Country Boy, Pipeday, Player, Hereford, Immensity, Cadcndale, St.' Tire, Parcmata, Astrologer, Royal Mary, Hymen, Aratoki, Alces, and many others did useiu'l work.
