j CHINESE FIREMAN INJURED. A Chinese fireman off tho liner Strathendrick was admitted to the Hospital yesterday suffering from a compound fracture of one leg. The injured Chinese cannot speak English, and is unablo to givo an account of how the accident occurred. It is understood the injury was rcceivod during the heavy weather encountered by tho Strathendrick in the Tasmaii Sea. The Chinese was first attended to by Dr. Pollen, who was signalled for on the arrival of the vessel in the stream. SUPPOSED ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. A trooper named E. M'Ewen, aged 24, was admitted to the Hospital at 9 o'clock last night suffering from a cut throat. The injury is believed to have been self-inflicted whilo M'Ewen was at Trentham. The wound is not a serious one. BROKEN ARM. A trooper, named J. Laycock, aged 20 years, was admitted to the Hospital at 9 p.m. suffering from a broken forearm. It is not known bow be came bv the injury. DIED FROM INJURIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 16. Georgo James Wood, injured 011 Friday last as tho result of a collision between a tram and a taxi-cab, died at t'lie hospital yesterday. Tho annual meeting of tho Pahiatua Farmers' Association was held on Tuesday (states our Pahiatua. correspondent). It was decided to pay a bonus of 10 per cent, on paid-up capital. The following were elected directors for the ensuing year .-—Messrs. D. O'Brien (chairman), A. Ross, A. M'Farlane, C. Avery, T. Mexted, J. Manson, and J. M'Cnrdle. Mr. A. Knox, one. of. tha retiring directors, who decided not to stand for re-election owing to ill-health, was accorded a hearty rote of thanks for his past services, he having been a director for several years.
