BERLIN OPINIONS ON THE WAR

FAITH IN THE TURKS RUSSIANS STUBBORN AND • ELUSIVE London, June 15. 'A neutral observer writes:—"There is a marked contrast compared with my previous visit to Berlin. Many officers are home on leave. The German plan seems to be to give everyone few months' training and actual experience at fighting. The result is a continuous coming' and going of troops. I found new confirmation of the belief current in England that the German Army Corps keep changing fronts. "The general opinion is that the fall of Constantinople is very remote. The people are convinced that the Allies' disposition is inadequate, and that 'tho Dardanelles cannot be forced. Officers nave repeatedly said that the Turkish soldier is well fed and led. He is as good fighting material as any in Europe, excols at trench warfare, and offers a stubborn defensive resistance. Under Gerinau direction he is efficiently equipped and organised, and will probably hold his ground on the peninsula. "The Russians are considered a stubborn and elusive enemy. _ Staff officers stated that if the Russians' commissariat and transport equalled their tactical skill and fighting qualities, different pages in history would be written. "I heard little of the campaign on tho French front. It is admitted that tho army of the Crown Prince is unable to retrieve its losses. Paris seemed no longer the objective. The difference is that here tho Germans are on the defensive. "It is repeatedly insisted that artillery, and not men, will count: in this war. _ The Krupp gun which bombarded Dunkirk at a range of twenty miles inspired as. much confidence as an army corps."—("Times" and Sydney '"Sun" Services.)
