GENEROSITY OF THE PEOPLE DONATIONS RECEIVED Since the inauguration of the scheme for consolidating all local relief efforts by paying moneys collected to the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs that officer has received in all £101,488! Uio schcme did not conio into operation until April 1 last, and this total by no means represents ali the money collected 6ince the war began for relief objects. A much larger amount was roi warded for expenditure long before the scheme was established. Nor does this sum include the bulk of the mouevs subscribed for the relief of wounded soldiers. It does not include, for instance, any of the money collected from day to day in this City in connection with the Carnival.
