: * i MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. - ; There wore present at last evening's ; meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough ' 1 Council:. The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin), - and Councillors Hodgins, Mcldrum, ; J Carver, Brassel, Clendon, M'Dougall, ( > Purdy, Ball, and.Hobbs. , Before proceeding with tie business, r the Mayor stated that he thought an- I s other opportunity should be extended to : i Councillor Ball to withdraw certain re- - marks that he had made at the last , 1 meeting of the council, when he had re- . fused to withdraw the words. He would < ask Councillor Ball again to withdraw the remarks used. ! Councillor Ball: I decline, Your Wor- : ! The Mayor then said be was grieved ; to have to move that a vote of censure bo passed on Councillor Ball, as he re- < fused to withdraw certain remarks. j Councillor Ball was referring to the I incidents that led up to the matter, i but the Mayor stated that there could : be no further discussion on the subject. Councillor Ball: Very well, sir. If I : can't get a hearing here I will get one ' through the Press. Councillor Brassel seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. In respect to an appeal from G. Hunt for compensation sustained through an accident to his horse and trap, caused through street repairs being effected, it was decided to reply disclaiming liability for the accident. ! The Karori Borough Council forwarded : a copy of a resolution protesting against < tho continual rise in tile expenditure of ] the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, : aud it was agreed that it should be a . remit to the next Municipal Conference "That the Government should uation- - aliso all hospitals throughout tho Do- - minion." 1 In respect to the dedication of a small , strip of land at Rata Street, Councillor Carver gave notice to move that a previous resolution refusing the dedication t ho rescinded. Mr. W. Strand pointed ' out in this connection that the owners of the land ill question were desirous ) of expediting the matter, so that titles ' could be prepared. , > The' engineer's report stated that the j expenditure for the three weeks ending ] 1 Jim 5, 1915, lad been: District fund < ; account, £349 7s. lOd.; gas account, i • £22 15s. lid.; total, £372 3s. 9d. \ I ■
