ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
« SEAMAN COMMITS SUICIDE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Napier, Juno ID. A seaman named John Mitchell, aged 32. off tho schooner TeAroha, committed suicide by jumping off the western pior at Port Ahuriri this aftomoon. Mitchell was seen by a jneinber of the pilot staff to go on to tho pier, take off his hat and coat, and throw himself inlo the water. The body has not been recovered- yet. A strong current was running, and the body will probably bo found in tho higher harbour. EX-SOLDIER FOUND DEAD.. Dunetiin, June 12. Joint Robert Hawkins, aged 24, a tailor by occupation, living with his parents at Port Chalmers, was i'ouad dead in his room at 9 p.m. on Saturday under conditions pointing to suicide. Tho top of his skull was blown off and a .303 rifle was found beside liim on the ileor. Deceased went to Trentham Camp last February, and whilo there mot with an accident and was invalided home. He afterwards tried to_ rejoin tho Expeditionary Forces, but it is understood that lio was unsuccessful and liis rejection appears to have preyed upon 'his mind. At anyrate ho had been despondent. FARMER DROWNED FROM A LAUNCH. Dargaville, June 12. A man named Errol Robson, aged 24, a farmor of Raupo, was accidentally drowned tliis afternoon. He was aboard a launch which ran foul of the steamer Pioneer and capsized. Robson, who was unable to swim, was drowned. Tho body lias not been recovered. ■ DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. At an inquest held by Mr, D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., on Saturday morning into the death of Mr. Wm. Jennings, of Upper Willis Street, who dropped dead on tho Ferry Wharf on Thursday evening last, a verdict of death from heart failure was returned.
