JOTTINGS FROM PROVINCIAL CENTRES. (From Our Special Correspondent!.) PAHIATUA. Mr. I'. J. M'Xeil, of Pahiatua, who is joining the Seventh Reinforcements, was entertained by his friends and presented with a wristlet watch. Mi. A\ illin liosworth, a Pahiatua business man, who has had considerable experience with ambulance work in England, has volunteered for the ambulance service. lie was entertained at a smoke concert by the members of tho ialnatua Defence liiiie Club and presented with a safety-razor outfit-. The Mayor (Mr. J. D. C. Crewe) presided On behalf of Mr. R. CorkiJl, who has also enlisted for sen-ice, Mr. Bosworth Presented the Rifle Club with a gold medal, appropriately inscribed, for competition. The presentation to Mr. Bosworth was made by Lieutenant- \\\ .1. Palmer. Mr. R. Corkill is to receivo a similar gift. The Pahiatua Defence Rifle Club has purchased three Winchester miniature rittes, and the range was formally opened on Friday night. The highest- scorers were: Lieutenant \Y. J. Palmer, Riflemen Setlcole and M'Cormick. Mr. J. A. AValsh has been appointed organising secretary for tho, Pahiatua District Wounded Soldiers' Fund at an honorarium of £1 per week. CARTERTON. Private George Weston, who is reported as having been killed in action nt tho Dardanelles with the Ota-go Battalion was a brother of Mr. W. J. Weston. of tho Carterton railway staff. The ponies donated by Mr. L. Nix, late of Parkvale, and now of Masterton. towards the Allies' Relief Funds, were auctioned by' Mr. Frank Evans, of W. and G. TurnbuU and Co., on Friday, and realised £18. A black marejvas also put up, and was sold for £7. A black gelding was also put up, and bought for £6 by Mr. E. J. Matson, who handed it back to tho fund, and it was sold the second time for £o. Tho Allies' Relief Fund at Carterton benefited to the extent of £24 as. lid. as the result of a ball held recently under the auspices of tho Carterton Druids' Lodge.
