Each, .year every Government orchard instructor ill New Zealand furnishes his , Director (Mr. T. W. Kirk) with an estimate of tho area likely to bo planted with fruit trees during the current planting season. Subsequently these " estimates are checked by tho area actually planted with trees, and up to -tho present time they havo been proved to bo remarkably accurate. Tho estimated figures for this year are as follow Auckland 6S Hamilton 80 Hawke's Bay , 150 Wangaaui-Taranaki S Palmerston-Wairarapa ■ 35 Wellington 35 Nelson •••• 550Marlborough 200 Otago 450 Canterbury . 200 South Canterbury 45 This will bring tho total area under fruit trees in tho Dominion up .to 44,748. acres.
