Throughout June 3 tho German artillorv, lirinc hiffli explosives, shrapnel, and stiak nomas, searched tho lines el communication, with a torrent of projectiles, and often Uwenty-minute infantry attacks followed tho bombardment. The Germans wore khaki tunios giving the lie to the declaration that they had not used our uniforms. The attackers were allowed to reach the chateau whon the batteries opened fire. The Germans, who rushed into the open, were caught by the machine-guns losing heavily. An incident of heroism oocurred among the Dragoon Guards. During the heavy shelling of the Hooge Village Post, three men wero blown to bite. Anothor lot replaced thorn; one man was killed, and a second was wounded and buried up to the shoulder by falling brickwork. Private Leigh, a Btretcher bearer, went out under heavy sholl-fire and for two hours tried to disentangle the unfortunate man. Eventually he freed him, but the man was dead.—("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
