HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

At last_ evening's parade of the Petone unit of the National Reserve the following committee was elected: — Messrs. Short, Robertson, Thompson, Boyd, Reeve, Cowie, and Smith. As the umt,fi6 now strong enough to appoint two lieutenants, Mr. Watson was appointed acting second-lieutenant, pending the result of the election for company captain. At the monthly meeting of the Petone and Hntt Plunket Society, held at Lower Hutt, Mrs. Kirk presided over an attendance of twelve. It was decided to engage the services of Nurse Baker fromOamaru for the Hutt and Petone districts, and- to provide a bicycle for Nurse Seater. The Plunket nurse reported that during the past month five now oases wore receiving attention, 57 visits had been paid by mothers to tie rooms, and 25 by the nurse to babies at homo. It was agreed that Nurse Seater should visit Lower Hutt each Wednesday at the Council Chambers from 3 to 4 p.m., and Petone every Monday and Friday at the Mayor's room, from 2.45 to 4 p.m. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Mather for.providing three oollcction boxes for the society. A jumblo sale roalised the sum of £8. The stall-holders were: Mesdames (Rev.) G. P. Stephenson, Todd, Burd, G. Wilson, Mather, Harman, Dormer, BuTboroußh, R. C. Kirk,, Corser, and Misses Brading and Peach.
