HOSPITAL SHIP GIFTS
I HOW DONORS ARB THANKED. j 1 In order to avoid the possibility of * those who are so kindly contributing goods for the Hospital Ship thinking that their gifts are not appreciated - owing to their not being acknowledged 1 immediately on receipt, 'it has been deemed advisable by His Excellency the Governor to point out that acknowledgments can only be sent by degrees as the contents of the cases are unpacked and checked. It is the practice to dis- T patch telegrams of thanks every evenuig to those through whose agency gifts have been forwarded, that is, after the contents of each individual case have ? beon unpacked, but in quite a number of instances telegrams of thanks have C not. been delivered owing to insufficient 11 addresses being given, and it is possible !! that this might lead people to suppose either that their contributions had not been appreciated or that they had not i. been received. While it is "the prao- / tice to thank individuals by telegram 0 who dispatch their gifts direct to the v Governor, it has only been found pos- j, sible whore goods have been collectcd j, in large quantities and forwarded in „ bulk from the various centres to tele- l, graph His Excellency's thanks to the j, chief organisors of such centres for ). transmission to the individual contribu- rj tors who have assisted. It is hoped that J, this explanation will remove any doubts J which mar exist in the minds of those n who have been giving so freely and who f possibly owing to the cases which they £ have sent not yet being opened have « not received a telegram of acknowledg- f menl and thanks. Tn conclusion It 0 should be added that it. would he finite n impossible to acknowledge in (lip Press o individual sjifts owing to the vorv r number of people throughout, the Dominion who hav« contributed m K | nr p roni rib"litis to Uic cguintneul pf t|j 0 t Slug.
