A good illustration of how form will change in a year was .provided at the Duuedin meeting. A year ago Palisade carried 9st. 131b., and won the Tradesmen's Handicap, John Barleycorn Ijciij;; second with 6st. 91b. On Saturday, on the. same course, John Barleycorn, 9st. 61b., was second in the Provincial Handicap, Palisade being unplaced under Bst. 131b. It may not be wise to conclude from this that Palisade is a light of other day 6, as he lias just returned from Australia, and he is likely to be heard of again in good races next season. Mr. H. Coylo has published his adjustments for the opening day of the Hawke'e Bay meeting. The jumpers engaged are not a good lot, and the fields in the two principal races do not appear to be strong. The meeting between Daylight Bill and Soporific in the big ' steeplechase will be interesting. Multiply is engaged in the Hawke's Bay Hurdles, and it is understood that he will be a starter. The Hover, 9st. 131b„ and Waipimoa, 9st. 41b., may be the best of tho light-weights.
