Tho shortage in flour, butter, tea, and sugar supplies is becoming more pronounced. It is expected that tho position of tho two last-named will shortly be relieved. There is a strong demand for lard and margarine at advanced prices. Tho first auction salo of fish caught by tho Stato trawlers was responsible for a decided lowering of prices.. The Government is arranging for a depot to refrigerate tho supplies, an'& carts for distribution. NEW SOUTH WALES LOAN. FIVE MILLIONS AT £99 10s. London, June 8. The New _ South Wales Government is underwriting a per cent, five million loan at £99 10s. The Government will issuo bearer debentures, convertible into inscribed stock, till August 23, repayable in July, 1927, with a Government option of repaying in 1922. A half-year's interest will be payable on January 1, and the final instalment of 40 per cent, payable on August 16, will bo required for the redemption of Treasury bills. (Reo. The "Times" states that the New South Wales loan issue had an attractive reception, and it would have been more cordial nad the underwriters been given a longer opportunity of disposing of tho recent issue. Excluding the Argentine, moreover, the sanctioning of this enormous amount of new capital i to bo raised in 1915 is scarcely comi patible with the necessity of hushandi ing the resources of the country. Four Chinese have been remanded on a charge of assisting in tho smuggling in of their countrymen.
