SUPPLY OF AMMUNITION
! BIG OUTPUT BY.NEW ZEALAND* 2 AND AUSTRALIA. 3 It was stated in certain newspapers ' recently that "New Zealand and Aus--3 tralia aro helping in a very small way 3 to enlarge their material contributions to the Empire's fighting forces." That such is the case is definitely contradicted by Mr. C. A. Whitney, attorney and i manager for tho Colonial Ammunition - Company, Ltd. Mr. Whitney is in a - position to know what is actually hapfc pening, and he desires the following to 1 be reproduced in these columns. Mr. 1 Whitney telegraphs from Auckland: — !j "I would like thero to be pub- : lished an immediate contradiction of the statement made. New Zeaj land and Australia's ammunition I; manufacturers are helping the Empire in a very large way, because j the Australasian forces at the front t are using, and cannot use anything j, hut, Auckland and Melbourne-made ammunition. Enormous quantities j have gone to tie front, and supplies i are continually being replenished J from the two manufactories. The > statement made is absurd, seeing I that it would equally apply to the T whole of tho troops sent by New Zealand and Australia. Without the ammunition it would havo been useless to send them. The Auckland . •works are producing three times their normal output, and the Melbourne works six times Auckland's maximum output." t This message from the Colonial Am--1 munition Company, is most satisfactory 5 and reassuring. i — .' >
