-A Riwaka bard, Mr. Harvey Holyoake, has received word from the private secretary to His Excellency the that the verses which accompanied his letter of February 1 were forwarded by His Excellency to the Secretary of State for the Colonies for submission to His Majesty the King, and that His Excellency ha" now been advised that tho verses were duly laid before His Majesty ; who has commanded that an expression of his thanks he conveyed to Mr. Holyoako for them. The High Commissioner also returns thanks for copies of the poems, adding that "they are full of enthusiasm end patriotism, and stimulate one to still greater effort."
