UNPATRIOTIC EMPLOYERS ?
THE DEFENCE MINISTER IS INCREDULOUS. "I have heard—l don't know what justification there is for the' rumour— that some employers are discharging men who register," said the Minister of Defence yesterday. "I can't believe that any employer will do any such thing. I have no doubt in my own mind what public opinion .would bo if it were discovered that any employer \vero acting so very unfairly at this time of great national trouble. Surely the man who registers is the man who ought to bo kept going until the Defenco Department wants him. He is a true servant of the country and tho Empire as well as of his employer. To turn him away I I can't believe it is true. Then lam also informed that some employers and firms are turning away single men, whether they have . registered or not. As Minister of Defence I am not particularly concerned with the man who does not register, but with tho single man who has registered I am concerned, 1 and I do think it is very improper for any employer to turn such a man away. Ido beg of i employers to keep-in employment those single men who hare registered until tho Defence Department calls them up for service."
