ATTACK BY FRANCO-BRITISH AIRMEN
RAIDER DESTROYED SUCCESS OF FRENCH OFFENSIVE THE GALICIAN BATTLES AUSTRIANS CLAIM TO" BE NEAR LEMBERG . SKETCHES FROM GAUJPOII To-day's news from the theatres of tie great European War contains an animated and thrilling account of a battle in the clouds between a Zeppelin airship in Flanders and two of the Allies' airmen — one French and the othor British—who attacked tho raider at a height of 6000 feet, forced her to run for shelter, and finally exploded her by means of 6ix bombs, which were dropped upon hor as she was preparing to drop down to her hangar. The French offensive north of Arras is progressing steadily, and north of the Aisne there has been a renewal of hostilities, to the serious disadvantage of the Germans, who have lost 2000 dead on the field alone. In the Eastern theatre the AustroGerihans have managed to gain the north bank of the Dniester, and an Austrian communique states that their covering troops have approached to within nine miles of Leroberg, the Galiciari capital. There is a comparative dearth of news from the other theatres. Turkish atrocities in Gallipoli, so it is stated, have kindled the blood of the Australians, and apparently there is a danger of small sections here and thero getting out of hand in their thirst for vengeance.
