A West Coast social was held m the Town Mall last evening to further the candidature of Miss Torcsa M'Enroe for J Carnival Queen. A Red Cross matinee tea, at which Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool has stated her intention of being present, is to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, June 10. It has been arranged by the St. John Ambulance and Eed Cross combined committee, and among the attractions which will be provided will be the dancing of some of Miss Beere's pupils, while Turner's string orchestra will supply the music. For those who are anxious to peer into the future there will be at least, four fortune-tellers stationed in the hall.
Miss Joseph, who makes the most delightful sweets, is having a stall at the Carnival bazaar which is to be held in the Town Hall next week. She will be assisted by Airs. Joseph and Sfiss Rose, and only home-made sweets, their own product, will be sold.
The engagement is announced of Sfiss Gladys Llewellyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Llewellyn, of Auciclnnd, to Air. J. Dobb. eldest son of Mr. and Sirs. G. Dobb, of Adelaide, late of San Francisco. California.
Tlie members of the Public Service are arranging for a plain and fancy dress ball which is to bo held in the Town Hall on Friday, June 11. As guests are invited to wear masks till midnight, there will be a considerable amount of mystification caused to many of those present.
A tango tea, arranged by the Tramway Committee in the interests of their candidate. Dr. Platts-Mills, is to be held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall this afternoon. It is under the patronage of Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, who intends to be present, the Premier and Mrs. Massey, and Viscountess Kolburn.
Miss G. M. Campbell is arranging for an entertainment to be given in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, to advance the candidature of -Dr. Platts-Mills. She will be assisted by Mrs. P. Nathan, Miss Doris Dall, Miss Esther Fisher, and Mr._ H. Ellwood, and some of her pupils will perform several dances.
A wedding of considerable interest took place in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Napier, on Saturday, when Mr. Charles Vigor Brown, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Vigor Brown, was married to Miss Mary Watt, daughter of the late Mr. Geo. Wntt, of Forfarshire, Scotland. Miss Margaret Laing -was bridesmaid.
