MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL
1 At last night's meeting of the Miramar Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) presided, and there were also present Councillors S. 31. Stone, S. H. Underwood, H. Hawthorn, M. Tracy, W. H. Green, and J. Pollock. The Petone Borough Council's circular letter regarding loss of rates on Crown lands was received, and the Mayor and Councillor Stone were appointed to represent the borough at a confcrence to be called by the Petone Council to consider the matter. A communication was received from tlio Karori Borough Council covering that body's resolution of protest against the system by which the Hospital and Charitable Aid levy was made. The Karori Council's contention was that the principlo of one body finding the money and another body spending it was to be deprecated. On the motion of Councillor Underwood, it was decided to write to the Karori Borough Council offering to support that body's eiforts to have the present system improved, in the direction of having all contributing bodies represented on the board. A letter was received from the Worser Bay Swimming Club stating that the club had been directed by the Public Works Department to vacate the club house, Worser Bay, 011 May 27. The club asked for permission to store its furniture in the old boat shed 011 the beach 011 payment of £5 per year. As about thirty members of the club nre at the front the boat shed would fulfil present needs. It was resolved to comply with the swimming Club's request. Advice was rcceivcd from the Department of Justice that, the amount nf electric light required for the lighting of Point Hnlswell Prison would be squnl to that required for about 25
