The patriotic football match between tho Trentliani and Auckland football teams was played in perfect weather at Eden Park yesterday, and despite strong counter-attractions thcro was an attendance of about 7000. Tho takings, which were in aid of tho -Hospital Ship Fund, amount to nearly £300. Tho teams were as follow: — Trentham: Full-back, Murray; threequarters, Lynch, Eoberts, Wilson ; fiveeightlis, Cameron, Weston; half, Ross; wing-fonvard, Taylor; forwards, Bilkey, Paul, French, Smart, Downing, Pountuoy, Olaro. Stewart; forwards, Sellars, Casey, Bruce, M'Hugh, Hansoh, Muir, Campbell. Mr. G. Nicholson was referee. The opening of the game showed surprising aggressiveness on the part of the local team. Early in the first spell a mark by Lynch was converted into three points by Murray from a long-angle kick. Shortly afterwards Lang, of Auckland, from the scrum half-way, beat three Trentham backs with _ a dummy pass, and had a clear run in. D. Stewart converted, and Auckland led by sto 3. At half-time a rearrangement of the Trentham backs and tho playing into form of some of the Trentham forwards .brought about a difference in the second spell. There was more dash in the play of Downing, French, Paul, Bilkoy, and the others, and in consequence some fine football was witnessed. The Auckland score was passed by a goal kicked by Murray, from a free-kick, and a few minutes later Wilson crossed the line and scored. From a movement started by Lynch another goal from a mark was kicked by Murray from 45 yards out, and'the scoring was completed by a try by Paul, the game ending—Treutham, 15; Auckland, 5.
