The Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting was continued to-day, ill perfect weather. Tho track was drier than on ! the.opening day. The totalizator investf meats aggregated .£44,256, as compared with .£41,972 oil tho corresponding day last year. The winner in tho Great Northern Steeplechase, El Gallo, received a great reception, but was fortunate to win, as Morccambe fell at the old water jump, and almost broko down. Monorail and Luperin were tho early leadors, but after the mile Harbour Light and Tararu Jack had assumed commajid, aud iu that ■ order they raced into the turn for homo, with Soultikoff coming fast. Harbour Light led over tho last obstacle and eventually won nicely by » three lengths, Soultikoff being a length further back, third, and Monorail fourth'. Ovation fell at tlio second fence. When the field had gone half a furlong Hima rushed through on the rails to the front, and had Combustion as his nearest attendant running down tho back, with Loloma handy. At the three-furlong post the last-named drew out and came round the home turn with a good lead, maintaining a five-lengths' advantage past the deciding line, with Stepnipaul second, four lengths ahead of Toki, who was third. Royal Arms was early in the lead, and passed tho stand full of running, but going down the back Tragedy King decreased tho space between himself and tho leader, and threo furlongs from home ranged up within a length. Over the last fence the pair jumped almost on terms, and a good race home ended in Royal Arms winning by three-quarters o£ a length, with Admiral Soult third, 15 lengths behind. He had a good lead over the water jump when en- £ taring on the last circuit, at which obstaclo tho Hon. J. D. Ormond's horso almost came down. Adams, however, £ inado a great recovery, and continued in advance up the hill, while El Gallo was J seen coming from tho back. When the straight was reached Morecambo still had the load, but EI Gallo finished ] iroll, and headed Morecambe after a J great, battle, fifty yards from the post, i and eventually won by three-quarters of (j a length, Golden Glow being a moderate 7 third, while Jackman, Cloudy Dawn, and Sandy Paul finished in that order.
